Video Thumbnail Generator

Grab thumbnail images from any video — capture a frame at the moment you choose or auto-extract several frames, then download them. Runs entirely in your browser.

Drop a video here, or choose a file

MP4, WebM, MOV and more. Your video stays on your device — nothing is uploaded.

The Video Thumbnail Generator pulls still images out of a video. Load a video file, scrub to the exact moment you want, and capture that frame as an image — or let it auto-extract several evenly spaced frames (or one every few seconds) in a single click. Then download the thumbnails you like.

It runs entirely in your browser using your device’s own video decoder, so your video is never uploaded anywhere. It is handy for making YouTube-style cover images, blog featured images, contact sheets, or picking the perfect frame from a clip.

How to generate thumbnails from a video

  1. Drag in a video file or click “Choose video” (MP4, WebM, MOV, and more).
  2. Set the thumbnail width and pick JPG or PNG.
  3. Scrub the player to a moment and click “Capture current frame”, or choose an auto-capture option and click “Auto-capture”.
  4. Download individual thumbnails, or use “Download all”.

Two ways to capture

  • Capture current frame — grabs the exact frame the player is paused on.
  • Evenly spaced frames — extracts a set number of thumbnails spread across the whole video.
  • Every N seconds — grabs a frame at a fixed time interval, great for a contact sheet.
  • Each thumbnail can be downloaded on its own, or all at once.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. The video is read locally by your browser and every frame is captured on your device. Nothing is uploaded, so it is private and works without a fast connection.

What video formats are supported?

Any format your browser can play — commonly MP4 (H.264), WebM, and MOV. If a video will not load, it is usually because the browser cannot decode that particular codec.

Can I get a thumbnail from a YouTube link?

This tool works on video files you upload, not YouTube or Vimeo URLs. Download the clip you own first, or take a screen capture, then load it here to extract frames.

What image size and format do I get?

You choose the thumbnail width (the height keeps the video’s aspect ratio) and whether to export JPG or PNG. JPG is smaller; PNG is lossless.

Is the video thumbnail generator free?

Yes — it is completely free, needs no sign-up, and runs entirely in your browser.
