About Code 128

Code 128 is a compact, high-density barcode that can encode all standard ASCII characters — letters, digits, and common symbols — which makes it one of the most widely used barcode formats for shipping, inventory, and product labels.

This generator uses Code 128 (Code B) and automatically adds the required checksum, so the barcode scans correctly on standard readers.

Tips for scannable barcodes

  • Keep enough white space (a “quiet zone”) around the barcode — the download includes it.
  • Print at a size large enough for your scanner; very small barcodes can fail to read.
  • Avoid resizing the PNG in a way that blurs the bars.
  • Stick to standard characters; unusual symbols may not be supported.
