The EPF Calculator estimates the retirement corpus you will build through your Employee Provident Fund. Enter your monthly basic salary, your age, when you plan to retire, your expected yearly salary increase, and the interest rate, and it projects your total contributions, the interest earned, and the final EPF corpus.
EPF is a compulsory retirement savings scheme for salaried employees, where both you and your employer contribute every month and the balance earns compound interest. The projection runs entirely in your browser — none of your salary details are uploaded or stored.
How to use the EPF calculator
- Enter your monthly basic salary (basic pay plus dearness allowance).
- Set your current age and the age at which you plan to retire.
- Choose an expected annual salary increase and the EPF interest rate (currently 8.25%).
- Read your projected EPF corpus, total contribution, and interest, updated live.
How EPF contributions work
You contribute 12% of your basic salary to EPF each month. Your employer also contributes 12%, but of that, 8.33% goes to the Employee Pension Scheme (EPS) and only 3.67% goes into your EPF balance. This calculator therefore adds 12% (employee) plus 3.67% (employer) to your EPF each month.
The balance earns interest, currently 8.25% per year, and your contributions rise as your salary grows. Because it compounds over a long career, the final corpus is typically several times the amount you actually contributed.
Good to know about EPF
- EPF enjoys Exempt-Exempt-Exempt status — contributions, interest, and withdrawal at retirement are tax-free (subject to conditions).
- Your 12% contribution also qualifies for a Section 80C deduction.
- Interest is credited once a year, calculated on the monthly running balance.
- The EPS pension portion is separate and is not part of the EPF corpus shown here.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much do I and my employer contribute to EPF?
You contribute 12% of your basic salary. Your employer also contributes 12%, but 8.33% of it goes to the EPS pension scheme and only 3.67% into your EPF, which is what this calculator uses.
What is the current EPF interest rate?
The EPF interest rate is set each year by the government. It is 8.25% per annum currently. You can change it in the calculator to match a different year.
Is my EPF corpus taxable?
EPF has Exempt-Exempt-Exempt status, so contributions, interest, and the maturity amount are generally tax-free if you have completed 5 years of continuous service.
Why is this different from my exact PF balance?
This is a projection based on steady salary growth and a constant interest rate. Your actual balance depends on real salary changes, rate revisions each year, and the exact timing of contributions.
