The Gold Jewellery Price Calculator works out what a piece of gold jewellery should cost — and helps you check a jeweller’s bill. Enter the item’s weight, its purity (karat), today’s gold rate, and the making charges, and it shows an itemised breakdown: the gold value, the making charges, 3% GST, and the total price.

Making charges and GST are where buyers often overpay without realising, so seeing each part separately makes it easy to spot an inflated quote. The calculation runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is stored.

How to use the gold price calculator

  1. Enter the weight of the jewellery in grams.
  2. Select the purity — 24K, 22K, 18K, or 14K. Most Indian gold jewellery is 22K.
  3. Enter today’s pure (24K) gold rate per gram; the calculator applies your karat’s purity.
  4. Add the making charges (as a percentage of gold value or a flat amount per gram) and keep GST on to see the final price.

How the price is calculated

The gold value is the weight multiplied by the rate and the purity of your karat — for example, 22K gold is 91.6% pure, so 10 g at ₹6,500/g works out to 10 × 6,500 × 0.916 = ₹59,540 of gold. Making charges are then added, either as a percentage of that gold value or a flat rate per gram, and finally 3% GST is applied on the gold plus making charges.

Seeing these three parts separately is the whole point: two jewellers can quote the same gold rate but very different making charges, which is where the real difference in price usually lies.

Making charges and GST explained

  • Making charges cover the craftsmanship and can range from around 6% to 25% (or a flat ₹/gram) — they are negotiable.
  • GST on gold jewellery is 3%, charged on the gold value plus making charges (jewellery is a composite supply, so the whole bill is taxed at 3% — a jeweller charging 5% on making charges separately is not correct).
  • For hallmarked jewellery, purity is certified — 22K is 916, 18K is 750, and so on.
  • When you sell or exchange old gold, you usually get the gold value only, without the making charges you originally paid.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the price of gold jewellery calculated?

Price = (weight × rate × purity) + making charges + 3% GST. The gold value depends on your item’s karat, then making charges and GST are added. This calculator shows each part separately.

What rate should I enter — 22K or 24K?

Enter the pure 24K rate per gram. The calculator applies your selected karat’s purity (for example 91.6% for 22K), so you get the correct gold value for that item.

How much is GST on gold jewellery?

GST on gold jewellery is 3%, applied to the gold value plus making charges. You can toggle it off in the calculator if you only want the pre-GST amount.

Are making charges fixed?

No. Making charges vary widely between jewellers — from about 6% to 25%, or a flat rate per gram — and they are negotiable. Comparing them is the best way to avoid overpaying.

Does this show the live gold rate?

No. You enter today’s rate yourself, which keeps the tool private and accurate to the price you were quoted. Check a trusted source or your jeweller for the current rate.
