The RD Calculator shows how much a recurring deposit will grow. Enter the fixed amount you deposit every month, the interest rate, and the tenure, and it instantly calculates the maturity value and total interest — with a breakdown of how much you deposited versus how much you earned.

A recurring deposit lets you save a set amount each month at a guaranteed rate, making it ideal for building a habit of saving. This calculator uses quarterly compounding, the convention Indian banks follow, and runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded or stored.

How to use the RD calculator

  1. Enter the amount you will deposit each month.
  2. Set the interest rate offered by your bank or post office.
  3. Choose the tenure in months.
  4. Read the maturity value and total interest, updated live as you adjust the sliders.

How RD interest is calculated

Each monthly deposit earns interest for the remaining time until maturity, and the interest is compounded quarterly. Because every instalment is invested for a different length of time, the maturity value is worked out with the standard recurring-deposit formula rather than simple multiplication.

The result is that your earlier deposits earn more interest than your later ones, and the total interest grows the longer the tenure runs.

Recurring deposit vs fixed deposit

  • An RD is funded by equal monthly instalments; an FD is a single one-time deposit.
  • RDs suit regular savers building a corpus from monthly income; FDs suit a lump sum you already have.
  • Both offer guaranteed, quarterly-compounded returns and similar interest rates.
  • RD interest is taxable and subject to TDS, just like an FD.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is RD maturity calculated?

Each monthly deposit earns quarterly-compounded interest for the time remaining until maturity. This calculator uses the standard RD formula that banks and financial sites use, so the figure matches closely.

Can I change my monthly RD amount later?

No. The monthly instalment is fixed when you open the RD and stays the same for the whole tenure. To save a different amount you would open a separate RD.

Is RD interest taxable?

Yes. RD interest is added to your income and taxed at your slab rate, and banks deduct TDS if the interest crosses the annual threshold, the same way as a fixed deposit.

What happens if I miss a monthly deposit?

Most banks charge a small penalty for a missed instalment and may close the account if several are missed. This calculator assumes every monthly deposit is made on time.
